Dip Physio, Registered Hand Therapist, MHTNZ
Rachel grew up in Whangarei and returned to work at Whangarei hospital for a brief time after graduating with a diploma of Physiotherapy from ATI in 1987. Rachel spent her early career in DHB-based orthopaedics both in New Zealand and England. Rachel’s Hand Therapy specialisation commenced at Middlemore hospital in 1992, and she was one of the first NZ Hand Therapists to gain registration in 2001. She has worked in a voluntary role as secretary and newsletter editor for Hand Therapy New Zealand.
Rachel is passionate about hand therapy with a keen interest in acute care. She particularly enjoys the art and problem solving required for custom splint making, having spent 2 years in an educator role running splinting workshops.
Rachel set up her successful hand therapy private practice, Moving Hands in Drury in 2005. She sold this in 2018 for a change of lifestyle, moving back to her home town now her family has grown up.
Outside of work Rachel enjoys pilates, tramping, travel and walking her dog.
